So, this totally worked when I tried it! XInput Plus worked for the game and the pad works. Personally, I like to have A as the in-menu OK button and B as the Cancel button, so I used the following instead, and then rebound the A/B/X/Y buttons in-game to have the attack/dodge bindings where I wanted: The following remappings changed the controls to what the defaults were on my DirectInput pad: I had to use the Customize option in the DirectInput tab to remap the buttons. I was able to borrow an XBox One controller from a friend and was able to test this out.
